Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need Transistor? Don't I just use Apple Podcasts?

Nope! Apple does not host your podcast for you. It's just a directory.

Every podcast needs to purchase their own hosting for their MP3 files, to generate a valid RSS feed, and show notes.

iTunes, Apple Podcasts, Spotify, Overcast, and Stitcher are podcast players that also feature a podcast directory. But they're not hosting platforms. When you click "download" or "subscribe" in these apps, the request gets sent to whichever host your favorite podcast is using (like!). The podcast player will then download the MP3 file off that server.

If you've ever clicked "download" for a podcast, and it didn't work, it's likely that podcast isn't hosted with a reliable provider!

Can I import my current podcast into Transistor?

Yes! If you're currently hosted with a provider like Simplecast, Libsyn, SoundCloud, Squarespace, or Anchor, you can easily import your existing feed.

Once your feed is imported, simply forward your old feed to your new Transistor feed. Once that's done, you'll be able to cancel your old account and use Transistor exclusively.

What does "10,000 downloads / month" mean?

Every time someone plays, streams, or downloads the MP3 for your show, that counts as a download.

On average, 80% of podcasts get under 1,100 downloads per episode.

With our basic plan, you get up to 10,000 downloads (or podcast plays) per month.

You can see our download analytics here.
