Update on the video podcast beta

We've been busy building video podcast hosting for Transistor! Here's an update on how it'll work, and when you can get beta access.

The idea is simple: upload a video file, and Transistor distributes it everywhere:

Upload your video to Transistor and we'll distribute a video version to Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and Spotify (coming soon)

We'll also extract the audio automatically, so your listeners on Overcast, Castro, etc who prefer to just listen get that too.

"How can I get access to the video beta?"

We will start rolling out beta invites the week of April 27th, 2026. We'll be sending invites in small batches, in the order we received signups.

Here's what we're planning to have ready for the beta:

  • Apple Podcasts: We'll publish HLS video directly to Apple Podcasts. (make sure you meet the requirements)

  • YouTube: Connect your YouTube account, and when you upload an episode, Transistor will auto-publish it to a YouTube podcast playlist for you.

  • RSS feed: Your feed will automatically include the HLS video stream, so apps like Fountain can pick it up.

  • Coming later: Spotify video and video analytics won't be in the initial beta, but they're on the roadmap. Later on, we're hoping to explore Dynamic Ad Insertion for video.

Note: this is beta software! It will likely be rough around the edges as we continue to develop it.

How much will it cost?

Our plan is to make video podcast hosting available on our Professional plans ($49/month) and above. If you're currently on a Starter plan and want to be eligible for early access, you can upgrade in your account settings.

We're still finalizing storage and resolution limits for each tier; we'll give you plenty of notice before anything changes.

We also just published a dedicated video features page that we'll keep updating as we ship: → transistor.fm/features/video

I've been wanting to build this for years! Thanks for signing up; it means a lot that so many of you are as fired up about this as I am.
